The Amazon affiliate program is called Amazon Associates. You can register and get your affiliate links for almost every product you can imagine. In this article you will learn all you need to know about the pros and cons of the Amazon affiliate program.
Pros & Cons of the Amazon Affiliate Program!!!!!!
Pros of the Amazon Affiliate Program
Each month more than 197 million people around the world visit Amazon. Amazon is by far the leader in online sales.
Well known and reliable
If you promote a product on your website and you use an affiliate link that links to Amazon, people are more likely to click it and buy something.
They know Amazon already and they probably have their address and bank information saved there. So they just have to do a few clicks to buy that product. This is a big plus for every affiliate!
Easy to sign in
This makes it easy to get started, too. After you have chosen a niche you will find products to promote on Amazon.
It is also very easy to sign into their program. But you need a domain you have to give them when you sign in. Many affiliate programs and networks have that as a requirement.
You can have your own website or you can use a YouTube channel. Having your YouTube channel as a domain will only work if you have a certain amount of followers.
Tons of products available
Thanks to the wide variety of the products they have, it is much more likely that you can promote products you really like.
Which makes you more motivated. Which leads to better performance when it comes to making content that you can use to promote the products through your affiliate link.
Revenue Expansion
A great thing of your affiliate link is that you cannot only get commission for that product you link to. You get a 24h cookie from Amazon. What does that mean?
This means if someone clicks your affiliate link and doesn’t buy immediately, but in the next 24h you will still get a commission.
And you will not only get commission from the product you promoted. But from everything they buy on Amazon in these 24 hours! Isn’t that great?
Cons of the Amazon Affiliate Program
Low commissions
Even with all the positive benefits you have with the Amazon affiliate program, we should also have a look on the cons of Amazon Associates.
The first thing I want to talk about the commission that you get for selling Amazon products.
You can get a maximum of 10% commissioning from their products. With an average commissioning of 4%-6% depending on what type of product you are promoting.
That is really not that much compared to many other affiliate products that can range up to 75% with high-ticket products (mostly digital products).
You could get banned
When you want to launch your first articles and want to start promoting Amazon products, you are probably pretty pumped and waiting for your first sale.
What many people don’t know is that they need at least three qualifying sales in 180 days otherwise they get banned.
The best you can do is to first, get some traffic onto your website/blog. So that you have a few hundred people visiting your website before joining Amazon Associates. Only then put the Amazon affiliate links onto your website.
It doesn’t really matter that you might miss a few sales. But this way you make sure that you get the traffic and sales you need so that you won’t get banned.
You also have to continue making sales after that, but that should be possible after you generated some organic traffic.
Only 24h cookie
Another minus for the Amazon affiliate program is the fact that you get only a 24h cookie. I mean, I can understand why they are doing it with so many people using Amazon.
But if you compare it with almost every other affiliate program then this is really short. There are cookies out there that are active for up to one year. ONE YEAR!
Also, be aware of the following:
– Don’t use pictures from Amazon products for your website.
– Do not use a link shortener (other than the short link of amazon) or cloak the amazon link.
– They don’t allow you to use your affiliate link for yourself or for your friends and family to buy through your affiliate link
– You have to put a disclaimer close to your affiliate link. It tells everyone that you will earn a commission if they buy through your affiliate link
I don’t want to scare you from using Amazon Associates. I just want to be all honest with you so that you know what you need to be aware of.
If you play by the rules you have nothing to worry! It’s better I tell you now before you get banned and find out the hard way, right?
